North Wall Quay, Dublin

It had been a long time since I last attempted to photograph this lighthouse which is situated near the O2 theatre in the heart of Dublin Port-land just east of the East Link toll bridge, so this sunny Easter morning, I ventured forth.
The lighthouse is situated at the end of the quay where the P & O ferry stops, so I drove in to ask if security would allow me up to photograph it (there were no ferries leaving or arriving - I thought I might be okay) No way. No. Absolutely not. Any suggestions? No.
I drove further down Alexandra Road thinking I might be able to get access to a nearby quay to photograph the lighthouse from. Again, stopped by a security barrier. At least this guy was more helpful. Dublin Port has a camera ban so he couldn't let me through but if I wanted to apply to Dublin Port for a permit, he'd be happy to oblige.
So, I decided to give it up and headed over to the south side of the river and the Stella Maris Yacht Club, from where I got these pictures. Of course, by the time I got there, a thick bank of cloud had rolled in and  the sun was completely engulfed. As always, click on the photos to enlarge.
There has been a light here since 1820, though this light was only erected in 1904. I have tried to no avail to find a picture of the pre-1904 light. Apparently the records of the Dublin Port Authority have been transferred to Fingal County Council, who, because of lack of manpower, funds etc, are holding them in an off-site, unsearchable storage facility.

Howth Trawler Pier light

And so to the trawler pier at Howth, just across from the West Pier. Red rather than green. That's about as much as I know about it.

Below, the two pier lights together

Howth West Pier light

While on the West Pier, it seemed churlish not to photograph, the West Pier light. I have no idea of date of construction etc

Howth lighthouses, co. Dublin

Took a trip out to Howth last January on a blustery day. Not great photography weather but I managed to get a shot of the old and new lighthouses on Howth pier, from one of the other piers.
